Rendezvous with Elegance
Announcement of Japan's 1st Classic Car Concours d'Elegance
Tokyo Concours d’Elegance
It was announced at a press conference on August 7th 2007 at the British Embassy Tokyo that Japan's 1st classic car Concours d'Elegance, called "Tokyo Concours d'Elegance", will be held this autumn from October 25th to October 27th.
Concours d'Elegance is a widely known concept in the world of luxurious and beautiful classic cars. The most prestigious events are held at Villa d'Este in Italy since 1929 and Pebble Beach in the United States since 1950. Tokyo Concours d'Elegance aims to join their ranks.
Rare classic cars owned by Japanese and overseas owners are being invited to exhibit their cars and compete for various awards. These cars will be judged on their elegance, historic importance and current condition, which should adhere to their original state at the time they were originally released. This year, there will be 32 classic cars invited to participate, manufactured between 1910 and the early 1970s. In true Concours d'Elegance style, the cars will be parked on grass at Tokyo Midtown Garden, a beautiful lawn surrounded by trees and shrubs in the centre of Tokyo.
In addition to the Concours cars, there will be gorgeous concept cars and museum cars on display from Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Nissan and other major car manufacturers. The latest super-luxury cars from Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz will also be displayed to show how today's grace and performance cars compare to the beauty and elegance of the past. On the eve of the 1st day of the event, October 25th, there will be a parade run of many of the Concours cars through central Tokyo, culminating with a welcome party at Louis Vuitton's store on Keyakizaka-dori, Roppongi Hills.
October 26th will be a VIP, invitation-only day. The Concours cars will be judged by a panel of eight expert judges. In the evening trophies will be handed out at a gala dinner party. October 27th will be a public day, when visitors can vote for their favourite cars. The event will make extensive use of the facilities of Tokyo Midtown and the Ritz Carlton Hotel as well as Roppongi Hills and the New National Museum.
In preparing and implementing the Tokyo Concours d'Elegance, the organizer has been in close consultation with Tokyo Metropolitan Government and received invaluable assistance.

Logo's origin
Design Keywords:Elegance Japan (Tokyo) Classic car
The overall logo has an Art Deco appearance, in keeping with the origins of Concours d'Elegance events. The outer wings represent a common theme found on the emblems of many well-established luxury car brands. The inner element is circular like a car wheel and the family crest found on the back of formal kimono in Japan. Purple has a noble connotation in Japan representing elegance and style. The three leaves are from the Ginko tree, the symbol of Tokyo where the event will be held. They are depicted here as wings of angels, a common theme of car mascots from many years ago. All these elements are melded together by a talented bi-cultural Japanese designer to form the logo for Tokyo Concours d'Elegance.
