The legendary German coachbuilder, Rometsch Carrosserie, was founded in Berlin in 1924. The company's life was cut short because the city was divided by the "Berlin Wall" immediately after the war. The car on display is known as "Model Beeskow", after the designer's name and is called the "Banana Car" in the US because of its unique curved styling. The car is made on a VW Beetle chassis and the body hand beaten using wooden buck with sheets of aluminum, which was the traditional way of making custom bodies at the time. The car was displayed at the Berlin Motor Show in 1950. The response from spectators was positive so the decision was made for limited production from 1951.
