Monteverdi was founded in 1967 near Basel by Peter Monteverdi. Monteverdi was a former racing driver and owned a luxury car dealership in Switzerland. The Monteverdi used a metal pipe space frame, a Chrysler V8 unit (7L or 7.2L) and Italians Carrozzeria and Fissile's modern bodies. The early models were only offered as 2-seater coupe/convertibles, but later models offered 2+2 coupe, midship 2-seater and 4-door limousine 375/4 variations. Monteverdi's goal was to make the world's fastest, sophisticated VIP saloon. It is an imposing car with a wheelbase of well over 3 metres. Only about 30 cars were manufactured, and the entry displayed here is said to have been owned by Peter Monteverdi himself.
