The Ghibli was introduced in 1966 and is regarded as one of the best among Maserati's stradale (road cars). Compared to other rivals, such as the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura, the Ghibli's design looks more linear, but it was actually a delicate combination of sharp edges and elegant curves, making its silhouette flowing and curvaceous. The body was manufactured by Carrozzerria Ghia, just before the firm was acquired by the Ford Motor Company. The car was penned by chief designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who had just arrived from Bertone. The well-balanced design is the hallmark of Giugiaro and some say that the Ghibli is his best super sports car design. Only 125 Spiders were made while 1,149 Coupes were produced. Therefore, the Spider is a valuable collector's item. Not only is the Ghibli on display rare, it benefits from the additional rarity of haying a hardtop.
