Delahaye was established in 1894 and was once one of the major manufacturers specializing in large commercial vehicles. They started to make flamboyant and elegant luxury supercars in the 1930s. The 135M is one of their signature cars and debuted in l935. It won the Le Mans 24 Hours. Various Carriage-builders in and out
of France created many different bodies for this model. The 135M stole the show at many concours events. The body is the masterpiece of two Italians: an engineer, Joseph Figoni, and his manager, Ovidio Falaschi. They opened up a carriage-builder workshop in Paris, Figoni et Falaschi. French carriage-builders at that time liked using sensual curvy structures. Figonrs fender was a bulb shape decorated with metallic rims shaped like flames. This kind of design was called flamboyant - and Figoni et Falaschi was the leading carriage-builder of this trend. It was very popular in Belle Epoch France but the trend was rather short-lived.
