The SS1 was the first original model by the Swallow Sidecar Company (It was called SS Cars in 1933 and later renamed Jaguar.) The car debuted at the l931 London Motor Show. This model marked Swallow's drastic change from a sidecar manufacturer and coachbuilder to a full-scale automobile manuhcturer. The SS1 is distinctive on two accounts: the body style and price. Its beautiful design with a super long nose and low roof shares its elegance with the super-luxury cars of the time like Bentley and Lagonda. And yet, the SS1 was one-third to half of the price of those super-luxury cars. As the founder of Jaguar, William Lyons, had hoped, the SS1 would become a huge hit. The SS1 was offered as a Drophead Coupe and Streamline Airline Coupe in
addition to the Four Light Saloon, which is entered in this event.
