The Phantom II made its debut in 1929 and this third generation of 40/50 HP is considered the greatest work of pre-WWII Rolls Royce. Compared to the earlier Phantom, which was formal and tended to be solid and heavy, the Phantom II had a slim and lighter body taking full advantage of a low-slung chassis. In addition to the standard models with either long or short wheelbases, the Continental was manufactured with the purpose of being driven longer distances. Its chassis was further lowered and strengthened and equipped with a more powerful engine. It also came with a choice of two types of wheelbase. This 2-seater open car features the Carlton drophead coupe body. Other examples include the stylish sports saloon body. These models are considered to be the most attractive among all cars produced throughout
Rolls Royce's 100-year history.
