Established in l906, Delage saw its peak as a car manufacturer in the 1920s and 30s. Then it vanished shortly after WWII. While Delage had its day at Grand Prix races, including winning the European championships, it was also famous for elegant and sporty cars such as this DI. Delage models had beautiful bodies made by Carrossiere (coachbuilders), very popular in France at that time. DI was also a star at Concours d'Elegance. Delage was very popular in the era of Belle Époque. This parable explains Delage's elegance very well: "If it's for your chauffeur to drive you buy a Rolls-Royce, if it's for
yourself, buy an Alfa Romeo, but if it's for your lover, buy a Delage." In the early vintage period, the skiff body came into fashion. The skiff body of DI represents wonderful workmanship with its beautiful teak, which just might be more beautiful than a real skiff.
